Requesting Corporate or Individual Names on Exterior Signage

1. Naming Proposal to Naming Committee

  • Corporate or individual donor interested in Naming Rights communicates with UMF.
  • UMF shares content parameters with donor and notifies University sponsoring unit.
  • Sponsoring unit communicates request to Naming Committee.
  • Naming Committee reviews/approves request to name after donor and forwards recommendation to president.

2. Artwork Request Form to University Marketing Communications

  • Sponsoring unit fills out Sign Artwork Request form and submits to University Marketing Communications.
  • If donor requests use of corporate logo, VPs approve.

3. University Marketing Communications develops concept for artwork

  • University Marketing Communications develops signage art mockup based on UMN sponsoring unit’s request and University Architect design parameters.
  • University Marketing Communications delivers mockup and placement proposal to Signage Committee, Sponsoring Unit and UMF for review.

4. Signage Committee approves mockup

  • Signage Committee reviews artwork for placement.
  • Signage Committee integrates comments from University Architect, sponsoring unit, and UMF; reviews per guidelines; and recommends approval or modifications.

5. Board of Regents approves naming

  • Naming Committee reviews/acts on proposed naming and signage advanced by Signage Committee and recommends approval to president before moving forward.

6. University Marketing Communications delivers final files to vendor

  • University Marketing Communications packages art file and delivers directly to production unit/vendor (Sign Shop or other).

7. University Architect approves final fabrication drawings

  • Sign Shop or University Marketing Communications coordinates timeline for installation, consults/coordinates with code office as needed and communicates to UMF and University sponsoring unit.

8. UMF communicates with donor

  • UMF communicates to donor and coordinates any event or announcements, using approved artwork and timeline.
