Type of Check When / How Often Required Items Optional / Depending on Responsibilities
New Hire
  • At least 1 week before hire date for enough time to complete
  • Ordered on Background account
  • Standard Package
  • Education Verification (if degree is required, e.g. P&A) or follow Administrative Procedure: Verifying Highest Degree
  • Employment Verification (optional)
  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) (e.g. where driving a University vehicle or on behalf of the University is an essential responsibility of the job)
  • Credit check (e.g. where required for financial responsibilities)
  • Other packages or verifications as required – consult with your local HR for questions
Transfer/reassignment
  • When previous completed background check was 12+ months ago and/or when new responsibilities require additional checks ·
  • Ordered on Background account
  • Same as New Hire above
  • Other packages or verifications as required – consult with your local HR for questions
Rehire into previous position
  • Only when termination date was 12+ months previous
  • Ordered on Background account
  • Same as New Hire above
  • Other packages or verifications as required – consult with your local HR for questions
International
  • Ordered on International Background account
  • Same as New Hire above
  • Other packages or verifications as required – consult with your local HR for questions
Safety of Minors
  • Every 3 years after hire date (initial hire check should be done as new hire)
  • Ordered on Safety of Minors Account
  • Standard Package
  • Other packages or verifications as required – consult with your local HR for questions
