Reporting Inaccessible Digital Content and Information Technology

Individuals are encouraged to report inaccessible digital content and information technology by submitting the Report Web Accessibility Issue form to the University’s Office for Digital Accessibility (ODA). All websites and courses at the University of Minnesota must have a link to the form.

Responding to Accessibility Concerns

Upon receipt of a reported accessibility concern, ODA will work with the responsible individual or unit to respond to the concern and ensure that access to the digital content and information technology is provided consistent with the Administrative Policy: Accessibility of Digital Content and Information Technology (“the Policy”). The ODA response process generally proceeds as follows:

  • ODA will determine whether the digital content and information technology meets the accessibility standards set forth in the Policy.
  • ODA will notify the responsible individual or unit of the report and will notify the responsible individual or unit and reporting party of its determination of whether the digital content and information technology meets accessibility standards.
  • If ODA determines that the digital content and information technology does not meet accessibility standards set forth in the Policy, it will set a reasonable completion date for the responsible individual or unit to render the digital content and information technology accessible, which is generally within thirty days.
  • ODA will provide support and guidance to the responsible individual or unit in order to make the digital content and information technology accessible by the completion date.
  • ODA will communicate with the individual requesting access to determine whether an alternate access solution is necessary until the digital content and information technology is made accessible.
  • If the digital content and information technology remains inaccessible after the completion date, ODA will share this information with the appropriate college or unit leadership. In some cases, the University may take the digital content and information technology offline until it is made accessible.
  • ODA will provide status updates to the individual requesting access throughout the process.
