Questions?

Please use the contact section in the governing policy.

  1. How are grades and transcripts handled after a mandatory medical withdrawal?

If a student undergoes mandatory medical withdrawal, they will receive W's for the term in which they were withdrawn.

  2. Can students who are mandatorily withdrawn participate in the Tuition Refund Appeal process?

Yes, they can. University staff will assist students and their families in accessing and navigating this process given the circumstances.

  3. What kind of situation might lead to the application of the process described in this policy?

While every student situation is unique, this process will be applied when a student shows a pattern, repeated over time, of failing to attend to their health and wellbeing or of needed resources beyond those the University can provide. A single visit to a healthcare provider, for example, will not trigger the application of this process. We encourage students to seek any necessary medical or mental health care.

  4. Do students on the Student Health Benefit Plan lose access to health benefits if they undergo mandatory medical withdrawal?

Not necessarily. Students with approved tuition refund appeals for medically related withdrawals can petition for health benefit coverage for the remainder of the semester. They must have had health benefit coverage in the preceding semester and provide documentation as proof of medically-related withdrawal.

  5. Can anyone request that a student be mandatorily medically withdrawn?

Only the campus student Care Team can initiate the process when they receive a referral or information about a student exhibiting behavior in line with the Policy Statement.

  6. Who provides information for consideration in this process?

The student is responsible for sharing information for the process. In addition, the Care Team considers information from various University sources. Nothing in this policy changes the confidentiality of a student’s records with health care providers.

  7. Will this policy be used when a student is incapacitated or missing?

No, it's intended for situations where a student presents a condition aligned with the policy statement and consciously refuses to voluntarily withdraw.

  8. What consideration is given for whether or not an emergency contact is notified?

The Care Team considers factors such as the availability of emergency contact information, the student's wishes, and the ready availability of the emergency contact for communication with University staff.

  9. How can I report to the Care Team?

Each campus has a Care Team that handles referrals concerning students who may need support. If a student shows behaviors suggesting immediate danger to themselves or others, please call 911 for emergency assistance.
