Possible Conflict of Commitment Area Guiding Principle Factors to Consider When Reviewing Report or Request
Activity may interfere with primary University activities Faculty member must be able to continue normal teaching, research, service, and departmental participation or professional/academic staff member must be able to maintain regular job responsibilities
  • Will faculty member be able to continue to meet classes?
  • Will faculty member be able to continue to meet departmental goals and expectations regarding scholarly activity and service?
  • Will faculty member continue to be able to participate actively in departmental affairs?
  • Will the professional/administrative employee be able to meet job expectations?
  • Can reasonable accommodations be made to facilitate proposed activity in light of responsibilities?
  • Should a reduction of the term of appointment (or a leave) be considered?
Activity may involve an excessive time commitment No more than one day per week, on average, for the term of the appointment Does the proposed activity, when combined with other [reportable] activities exceed the ?significant outside commitment? threshold?
