A number of academic appointment situations require clarification with regards to the REPA reporting requirement. However, the reporting requirement for research personnel supercedes any reporting exemptions, based on particular academic appointment situations, for academic appointees described below.

Academic appointees with more than one appointment.
When an academic appointee holds more than one appointment and one or more of the appointments is of a kind that is not required to complete a REPA form, the appointee's primary appointment held during the reporting period is to be used to determine if the appointee must complete a REPA form.

Academic appointees with an appointment term other than 12 months.
An appointee with an appointment term other than 12 months must file a REPA form unless his or her primary appointment is of a type exempted.

Phased retirement agreements.
An appointee with a phased retirement agreement must file a REPA form. For those with phased retirement agreements with a work commitment of less than 100 percent paid time, the time limits on external professional activities are applied in a manner consistent with the individual's total commitment.

Retired faculty.
A faculty member with an active primary appointment (employee status code of "A"; Active) who is retired is not required to file a REPA form unless the appointment is a paid appointment.

Unpaid or without salary academic appointees.
An academic appointee whose primary appointment is unpaid or without salary is not required to file a REPA form.
